Just a few thoughts before bedtime (Or, I suppose I should say, before crawling into bed and reading Welcome to the N.H.K.:OGT had some of us over for an anime sampler platter, sandwiched in between sessions of Ouendan, wherein he schooled me, and Guitar Hero III, wherein I rocked out.
What did I see there, you might ask? Baccano!, which I had confused with another anime and not watched because of the misunderstanding. This show looks really fabulous — OGT can doubtlessly tell us who voiced the butler-looking dude (and did, in fact), but I can’t remember. He did Dad-Cat from Azumanga Daioh, I remember him saying that. The character, voice and all, was delightfully strange and weird. The whole show can be described in that way, actually. Definitely something I’ll be catching up with (is it finished? I should pay more attention).
Also we watched the first episode of Bamboo Blade. Also strange — indeed, it looks like what I wanted Sumomo mo mo, Momo mo to be, with a lot of bizarre humor, and an instructor happily obsessed with free food.
The first episode of Simoun was strange and fun, with gloriously blatant yuri kissing.+ Indeed, OGT laughed at my expression during the first kissing scene and said, “Yeah, I said you’d like it.” (I’m a fan of Marimite, but sometimes it’s irritating that the author has left herself escape hatches, so every character could turn out to be heterosexual [except Sei, I suppose], so it was refreshing.)*
We also watched the second episode of Potemayo. I’d seen it before, but OGT’s friend hadn’t, and I enjoyed re-watching it. Significant, as it’s one of the shows I deleted as I finished watching.
Sorry — a more meaty post to come in the next few days, as I have some time to mull things (rather than drive for four hours in a day to be social).
+By the way, my wikipedia excursion just showed me that a “simoun” was an aircraft in the 1930s, as well as a “simoon,” like I thought.
